Dutch probably is not the easiest language in the world. Grammar, pronunciation, idiom, it all looks very difficult to people from abroad. But you can do it! You just need to practice. We give you the best opportunity in our small conversation groups. You want to speak the language? Join in now!

Small groups

Spring 2007

In Groningen we practice in small groups of 3 to 5 people. In this group you will learn to speak and understand Dutch in a pleasant way. We focus on speech and understanding. Pronunciation is an important issue. We try to keep grammar and writing to a minimum. Of course we start with many basic expressions, but later on you can also bring your own subjects to talk about. Sometimes we listen to Dutch popmusic and try to understand the lyrics. If somebody likes to fly a kite, he will learn to tell us all about it in Dutch, etcetera. Because we are only few, you will get a lot of practice each time.

8 lessons

As a group we meet 8 times for about 1 ½ hours and try to practice as much as possible. The group meet at my place (see schedule below).

In 8 lessons you will have basic Dutch conversational skills and will be able to talk about where you live, your work, your family, your hobbies and many other subjects. You will loose your fear of speaking the language, which is very important.

Levels

Beginners : For people who do not speak any Dutch yet or who can understand / speak only a little bit of Dutch.

Summer 2007

The main thing is that you will learn to speak Dutch! You will learn to tell everything about yourself, your family and your work or hobbies, practice things like questions and answers, telling time, make appointments, do shopping, order in a restaurant, make telephone calls, having small conversations, etcetera. We will also discuss basic rules and vocabulary. The course will bring you at least to language level A1 for spoken interaction.

Beginners II: extended beginner's course, for people who have completed the Beginners course but do not feel comfortable with the language yet.

Intermediate: For people who already speak and understand some Dutch but still need quite some practice. Follow-up of the Beginner's I or II course or other Dutch language courses taken elsewhere. You will achieve language level A2 or higher, for spoken interaction.

Advanced: For people who have learned to speak Dutch but wish to practice their conversational skills. (Language level B1 / B2 )
